The Baby Boomer Generation, those born between 1946 and 1964, are now becoming senior citizens! This is the largest generation ever. You see, currently one in four Americans are baby boomers. (Including myself). We are the largest population group in US history. It is estimated that by the year 2017, those aged 50 and older will represent 45% of the U.S. population (AARP).
In honor of the day, let’s celebrate the memories of the baby boomer generation with some fun gift ideas that are still available!
Did you know? A baby boomer turns 50 every 18 seconds, Every seven seconds, a baby boomer turns 60. Our current average lifespan is now estimated at 83 years.
The AARP says that four out of five boomers (80%) believe they will be working in some form during their retirement years. Baby boomers were the first generation where the majority had some form of higher education.

Fun Fact: Baby boomers mostly live in metropolitan areas, as opposed to
rural counties. They are most concentrated in New England, the mid-Atlantic states, the upper Great Lake states and the Pacific Northwest.
Baby Boomers have the distinction of being the first generation to grow up watching TV.
Before the invention of the internet, television was the way to go! Baby Boomers grew up watching sitcoms, westerns and variety shows, but were also able to witness historic moments like Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon.

Fun Fact: Television and transistor radios helped to promote new music to baby boomers.
Most notably when The Beatles swept into America in 1964. Many baby boomers distinctly remember the first time they watched the Beatles play on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Woodstock was held in the summer of 1969. It was a three-day music and art festival that quickly became a pivotal moment in music history.
Woodstock embraced social experimentation, sexual freedom and free-spirited nature of the growing counterculture of the 1960s and was a major influence to those of the baby boomer generation.
How to celebrate Baby Boomers Day? Well, if you are a young’un, then be sure to spend some time and show some appreciation for senior citizens. You can also do volunteer work to help support the elderly.
