The Cookie Monster, created by Jim Henson, was actually first drawn as a cookie eating monster for a General Foods Commercial that never aired. He then appeared in an IBM training video, and then on the Ed Sullivan show. He debuted in the first episode of Sesame Street with Kermit the Frog, where he interrupted Kermit’s “W lecture” by eating the letter.
