Grilled Cheese Sandwiches date back to the early 1900′s.  An Iowa man, considered “the father of sliced bread”, invented a bread slicer that made distributing white bread easy and affordable. It was about the same time that a product called processed cheese was patented by James L. Kraft.  This revolutionary cheese incorporated a pasteurizing process that kept the cheese from spoiling even when transported long distances.

It was the perfect storm.  Grilled cheese sandwiches became a reality!
